CAB Evaluation

The Change Advisory Board or CAB plays a major role in the change management process.

The change manager usually handles small and insignificant changes. However, with complex changes that might involve higher risks and greater impact on the company's resources, the combined expertise of a group of competent individuals drawn from across the organization is necessary. This group must meet periodically to evaluate the proposed changes critically review them, and offer suggestions to the change manager.

The composition of the CAB varies across organizations. Usually, there are some permanent members, such as the change manager, the change reviewer, and the IT expert. The other members are added to the CAB based on the need and the type of change request.

The SDAdmin configures the CAB under Setup  >> Change Management. Here, the admin can configure CABs for emergency changes or even for specific infrastructural changes, such as firewalls, routers, switches, etc.

If a CAB is not configured in the workflow selected for your change request, you can add CAB members and send for their recommendation from the Change Details page. ServiceDesk Plus allows change approvers to authorize change requests through email, mobile app, or self-service portal.
