Parent-Child Request Association Extension

The parent-child request association extension allows technicians to associate closely related requests, and create a parent-child relationship between them. This helps them track dependencies and ensure smooth resolution.

You can install the extension from ManageEngine Marketplace or from Setup > Apps & Add-ons > Extensions > All Extensions.

Role Required: SDAdmin

Configure the Widget 

The extension comes with a Child Requests Along With Dependency custom widget component, which offers technicians an interface to associate child requests with a parent.

You can configure access levels to the widget, as follows:

• Go to Setup > Developer Space > Custom Widgets. 
• Locate the Child Requests Along With Dependency widget in the list, and expand it by using . 
• Click Configure in the details view. 

• In the configuration pop-up, perform the following and click Save.

Field	Description
Widget Item Name and Display Location (read-only fields)	Displays the name of the widget and where the widget will be shown in the application.
Associated Roles	Select one to define which users can access the widget: • All Roles: Makes the widget available to all users.  • Selected Roles: Restricts access to specific roles.  If Selected Roles is chosen, select the roles that can access the widget.
Show to Requester	Enable this option if you want requesters to access walk-in support from requester portal. If this option is enabled and access is restricted to specific roles, the SDGuest role will be added to the list automatically.
Criteria	Select one: • Select Based on conditions to define request criteria. Only requests that meet the criteria can be associated.  • Select No condition to allow technicians to associate any request.

How to Associate Child Requests 

With a parent, you can associate multiple requests as child requests or dependent requests. The parent request can be moved to completed status only after all its dependent requests are closed. 

Role Required: SDAdmin or technicians with edit permissions to the request

To associate requests,

• Go to the required parent request details page.
• Go to the Child Requests tab.
• Click Associate.

• In the Associate Child Requests pop-up, 
  • Select the checkbox next to the required requests. 
  • Click Associate to add them as child requests or Associate as Dependent to add them as dependent request.

Child Requests List View Actions 

• Set Dependencies: Use the Set buttons in the Dependency column to set associated child requests as dependent requests. 

• View Dependencies: Use the Dependency Chart to visualize associated requests (children and dependent requests) in a hierarchical tree view. Each child is displayed with its status and associated children, and dependent requests are highlighted. 

• Choose Columns: Use Choose Columns to add more columns to the list view.
