Configuring project templates allows users to apply a common template for repetitive projects, such as creating workspaces for new hires, uploading websites, or upgrading software applications. With project templates, you can auto-populate known data, saving time and effort.
In project templates, you can add milestones, tasks, and project members.

On this page, you will find detailed information on configuring project templates.
Go to Setup > Templates & Forms > Project Template.
Click New Project Template. The displayed form consists of three main sections: Header, Fields List, and Canvas.
Fill out the form as directed.

Provide the basic details of the template.

Fields List |
The fields list in the right pane contains two tabs: Available Fields and New Fields.
You can configure additional fields under Setup > Customization > Additional Fields. More information on configuring additional fields is available here.
Based on the selected field type, the field properties vary. More information on different field types is available here.

Canvas |
Canvas contains various fields to capture vital information about the project. Some of the fields are hard-coded into the template and cannot be removed. You can add more fields and sections into the canvas and define their properties.
You cannot delete the sections with hard-coded fields. However, you can move the hard-coded fields to another section before deleting the section. |
After configuring a template, click Save. You can view the template's layout beforehand by clicking Preview on the top of the page.

After saving the template, the following tabs will become available in the template configuration page:
Under Details, you can add or edit the project details. You can use the Actions drop-down to add milestones, tasks, and tasks from template and copy project template.
Milestones are achievable target points in a project. They are sequenced to track the progress of a project. To add a milestone,
Open a project template.
Switch to the Milestones tab, click Add Milestone.
Provide a milestone name and description.
Select the priority and status.
Enter the approximate time required to complete the milestone.
Add attachments if any using the drag-and-drop method or click Attach File.
Click Save.

To edit or delete a milestone, click the Actions icon beside it and select the required operation.
To bulk delete, select the milestones and click Delete.
To set the milestone execution order, click Organize on the top of the header menu and reorder milestones using the up and down arrow. Click Apply.

Add tasks to a milestone to organize and track the progress of milestone. To add a task to a milestone,
Go to the milestone details page, switch to Tasks.
Click Add Task.

You can also use a task template by clicking Add Task > Add Task from Template. Select the task template and click Add Task.
You can use the Quick Add option to instantly add a task too.
Fill out the displayed form and click Save.

To edit/delete a task, click the Actions icon beside it and select the required operation.
To bulk delete, select the tasks and click Delete.
Click Organize on the top of the header menu and use the up and down arrow to reorder the tasks.
To associate tasks and milestones, select the tasks and click Assign Milestone. Select a milestone from the list and click Yes.
Tasks are discrete pieces of work or activity done in a project. To add task to a project,
Open a project template.
Switch to Tasks.
Click Add Task. You can also add tasks via task templates. From the Add Task drop-down, click Add Task from Template. Select the task template and click Add Task.
Provide a task name and description.
Fill out the necessary details and click Save.
Task List View Actions
To edit or delete a task, use the Actions icon.
To bulk delete, select multiple tasks and click Delete.
Click Organize on the top of the header menu and use the up and down arrow to reorder the tasks.
To associate tasks and milestones, select the tasks and click Assign Milestone. Select a milestone from the list and click Yes.

After creating a project template, you can add members and assign roles. If you create a project using this template, the members under the Members tab will be automatically added to the project. To add members to a project template,
Open a project template.
Go to the Members tab.
Click Add Member, select the members from the available members list and assign a project role.
Click Save.

Bulk Actions
On the members list view page, you can delete project members and assign project roles in bulk.
Task dependency is a logical relationship between tasks that defines the order of completion of each task.
You can mark dependency between the following tasks within a project template:
Project template tasks
Tasks between project template and the project's milestone template
Tasks across milestone templates within a project template
Tasks within a milestone template
Configure Tasks Dependency
Open a project template and click Task Dependency on the top of the page.

Click the first task and drag the arrow up to the second task.
Then, repeat the process with the second task as source node and next task as target node to define the sequence of tasks.
To delete dependencies, hover over the dependency link and click the Remove icon.
You can also mark task dependency while creating a project.

Manage Templates - Use the Actions icon besides the template names to edit, delete, enable, disable, or copy the project template.
Mark as Default - Click
to mark the template as default.
Search - Click
on the top-right to search through all the columns other than date fields.
Table Settings - Click Table Settings
to limit the number of records displayed per page, set view option, and sort templates as needed.
