Project Template

Configuring project templates allows users to apply a common template for repetitive projects, such as creating workspaces for new hires, uploading websites, or upgrading software applications. With project templates, you can auto-populate known data, saving time and effort.

In project templates, you can add milestones, tasks, and project members.

Configure Project Template 

Fill out the form as directed.

 

Header

Provide the basic details of the template.


Template Name: Provide a unique name for the template.
Comments: Provide a brief description about the template.

Fields List

The fields list in the right pane contains two tabs: Available Fields and New Fields.

  • Available Fields - Contains default and additional fields configured in the application. Drag and drop the field from the fields list to the template canvas.

You can configure additional fields under Setup > Customization > Additional Fields. More information on configuring additional fields is available here.

 

  • New Fields - Contains various field types that you can use to create additional fields instantly for the project template. To create a new field, drag and drop a field type to the template canvas and add the required details.

 

Based on the selected field type, the field properties vary. More information on different field types is available here.


Sections: Apart from the fields, you can add new sections to the template from the right pane. Drop the New Section element to the template and group the fields within the section.

Canvas

Canvas contains various fields to capture vital information about the project. Some of the fields are hard-coded into the template and cannot be removed. You can add more fields and sections into the canvas and define their properties.

 

  • Name a section by clicking Untitled and type in the relevant section name.

  • Hover over a section and use Section Properties  on the upper-right corner to configure the number of columns, label orientation, collapsed state of the fields in the section.

  • Hover over the field and use Field Properties to mandate a field. You can use to delete the field.

  • Rearrange the fields and sections by using a simple drag and drop method.

 

You cannot delete the sections with hard-coded fields. However, you can move the hard-coded fields to another section before deleting the section.
Hard-coded fields in the project template are Title, Status, Owner, Estimated Hours, Actual Hours, Estimated Cost, Actual Cost, % Completed, Scheduled Start, Scheduled End, Actual Start, Actual End, Project End, Created Time, Description, and Attachments.

 

 

 

After saving the template, the following tabs will become  available in the template configuration page:

 

 View or Edit Details

Under Details, you can add or edit the project details. You can use the Actions drop-down to add milestones, tasks, and tasks from template and copy project template.

Add Members

After creating a project template, you can add members and assign roles. If you create a project using this template, the members under the Members tab will be automatically added to the project. To add members to a project template,

If a project role is not assigned to a member, they will hold the default project role.

 

 

Bulk Actions

On the members list view page, you can delete project members and assign project roles in bulk.

 

Mapping Task Dependency

Task dependency is a logical relationship between tasks that defines the order of completion of each task.

You can mark dependency between the following tasks within a project template:
