Release Management - Development

After the release plan is approved and proof of concept (POC) verified, the release request moves into the Development stage. In this stage, the prerequisites (or processes involved in the release) for the release, including the software build, test environment, documentation, and more are built. You can otherwise call this stage as 'Preparation' for the release. (The actual product to be released must have already been built in Change Management process.)

Documentation is initiated at the beginning of the development process to set metrics and provide guidelines to the technicians developing the release. Also, the documentation is maintained accurately throughout the development process to be used in repeating the software build generation if necessary.

The development stage mostly involves time-based work from technicians and requires them to follow strict time frames. Distribute the workload among technicians by creating tasks.

You can schedule the release development in the Planning stage or at the beginning of the Development stage. Record the actual time frame after the development process completion.

After development, the release enters the Testing stage.
