Change types identify the business impact of a change and the associated release process as major, minor, standard, and significant. The change type plays a significant role in deciding the template and workflow for the associated release process.
The SDAdmin can configure release types under Setup >> Customization >> Change Management >> Change Type.
Templates help technicians save time and efforts by auto-populating fields with the required data for frequently created releases, such as software upgrades, firewall policy updates, and Windows patch updates. Using these templates, technicians can create release requests quickly by providing minimal information.
The SDAdmin can configure release templates under Setup >> Templates & Forms >> Release Template.
Release workflow allows admins to define a life cycle for the release process of any deliverables in an organization. Design workflows for release processes specific to your organization and associate them with releases. For example, you can design workflow for high-risk releases with elaborate planning and deployment.
The SDAdmin can configure organization-specific release workflows under Setup >> Automation >> Workflows.
After all these factors have been decided, you can begin to configure the release request.
