Change Enablement - Submission

After identifying the need for a change, a thorough assessment of how the proposed change process will proceed is necessary.

Depending on the impact, risks involved, urgency, and priority of the change, you need to decide on the template, type, and workflow to be used for the request. In addition, you need to check whether this change is a retrospective one. i.e. a change process that is already implemented and closed but is raised now for tracking and recording purposes.

Change templates help reduce the time and effort spent in raising requests for repetitive and frequent issues. For example, you can have a general template, an emergency template, or even a firewall template. Templates come with boilerplate information. That is, most of the information inside the change request is already filled out during the template configuration; the technician will need to fill out only minimal details while raising the request.

The SDAdmin configures these templates under Setup  >> Templates & Forms >> Change Template. For more information, click here.

Change types, as the name implies, refers to the different categories of change requests raised within your organization. Depending on the impact and other factors, changes can be categorized as minor, major, standard, and significant. To learn more, click here.

Workflow refers to a set of activities or tasks that have to be completed in a certain sequence to complete a change request. The flow of these activities depends on the type of change requested and the organizational process and control. For example, for frequently raised change requests such as a RAM upgrade or a toner/cartridge replacement that might be directly implemented and closed without any approvals, workflows must be configured accordingly and linked to the change requests.

The SDAdmin configures organization-specific workflows under Setup  >> Automation>> Workflows. For more information, click here.

After all these factors have been decided, you can begin to configure the change request.
